These most recent seasons have seen the club rise above Herefordshire league football for the first time, and it’s all been down to the drive and ambition of one man – manager Dave ‘Cad’ Cadwallader. Off the pitch, Paul Ingram provided excellent back-up, and founded the Bartestree Ball which has become such an important fund-raiser, as well as being the highlight of the village social calendar.
Cad’s first three seasons saw a meteoric rise through the divisions, and railings and advertising boards were installed around the pitch. But a month or two into season 2014/15 Cad resigned, and his assistant Chris Hayes took over. It was a difficult season, and relegation was only just avoided. After a disappointing start to 2015/16, Chris stood down, and although Cad returned to the hot seat, results took a turn for the worse, and the club had to withdraw from the league when recruiting eleven players became impossible. One bright spot that season was the installation of hard standing down two sides of the pitch, proper dug outs, and a covered spectator area.
2016/17 saw a fresh start back in the Herefordshire Prem, and a season full of hope. Cad recruited some of the best young talent in the county, and these teenagers played some wonderful attacking football, finishing runners-up in both the League and Charity Vase.
The decision was taken to enter the Midland League 2017/18, and we enjoyed two entertaining seasons in a well-organised league. In 2019 we reached the final of the Challenge Vase, only to lose 2-0 to Central Ajax of Warwick at Stourport Swifts ground. The same season we made it to the semi-final of the HFA County Challenge Cup, losing 3-2 to Pegasus Juniors in a thrilling match.
During the summer of 2019 Dave Cadwallader moved up to Hereford Pegasus FC, with our best wishes and thanks for his long service. His old team dissipated, and so Nathan Scott’s reserves were promoted to become our First Team, competing in the HFA Premier League 2019/20.
